What if drones could help us detect structural damage before it becomes a serious threat?
That’s the idea behind SkyShield, a UAV-based AI system developed by our students at Woxsen University to make infrastructure inspection safer, faster, and smarter.
By combining autonomous drones, high-resolution imaging, YOLOv8-based crack detection, and Edge AI, SkyShield can identify and localise structural cracks in buildings, bridges, dams, tunnels, and other critical infrastructure in real time.
Beyond the technology, the project focuses on a meaningful goal: early detection, safer inspections, and better infrastructure maintenance.
