Empathy in Action: Social Immersion Project Shapes Future Designers at Woxsen

Jun 02, 2026

In a world increasingly shaped by AI, the ability to pay attention may be the most valuable skill of all.
At Woxsen University's School of Arts and Design, learning begins not with solutions, but with observation. Through the Social Immersion Project (SIP), 168 Foundation Design students spent 16 days in a Telangana village—listening, mapping, understanding systems, and learning directly from communities before attempting to design for them.
The experience builds what no classroom alone can teach: empathy, cultural sensitivity, systems thinking, humility, and the discipline to observe before concluding.
Because meaningful design starts with understanding people, not just problems.
