Industry Visit Report: Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills Ltd.
As part of the academic curriculum for Semester 3, students of B.Des (Fashion Design), Batch 2025–29, undertook an industrial visit to Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills Ltd., Amangal, Telangana, on 6 August 2026, with the objective of providing exposure to industrial-scale textile manufacturing and reinforcing classroom learning in textiles through practical, real-world observation.
The visit was arranged by Prof. Kamal Narayan, with the batch accompanied by Prof. Srijana Baruah, Batch Mentor.
Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills Ltd. is an established textile manufacturer producing cotton, polyester, viscose, polyester-viscose blended, and recycled polyester yarns for domestic and international markets, with recycled polyester notably sourced from discarded PET bottles.
Students observed the complete spinning process — from raw-material inspection and storage through the blow room, carding, drawing, roving, ring spinning, autoconer winding, quality testing, and final packing stages. Key machinery observed included blow room units, carding machines, draw frames, simplex frames, ring spinning machines, and autoconers, with automated and monitoring systems in place to maintain consistency, efficiency, and minimal manual intervention.
The visit also highlighted the mill's practices in quality assurance, waste management, resource efficiency, and workplace safety — enabling students to connect theoretical concepts in textile and fashion education to real industrial processes and production standards.
