The 1st International Conference on Data and Diversity: Rethinking Social Exclusion, Economic Development, and Wellbeing in India (Social EX’ 25) bring together experts, practitioners, researchers, academics, policy makers, and students from diverse fields of social sciences, humanities and policy sciences to explore the recent challenges in the landscape of social exclusion, development and social policy in India. Social EX 2025 will feature inaugural, keynote and invited lectures, paper presentations, best paper and poster competitions. With ample networking opportunities, Social EX’ 25 offers a platform for networking, collaboration and knowledge exchange. The conference celebrates the renaming of the Department of Economics at Woxsen University in honour of renowned social policy expert Professor Laurence Simon from Brandeis University, USA who will deliver the inaugural in-person keynote lecture. Additionally, the conference is dedicated to celebrating the lifetime contributions of Professor Sukhadeo Thorat, one of the leading experts in social policy. The conference will deliberate on both stalwarts work in the theory and policy of social exclusion and economic justice.

The conference seeks both theoretical and empirical papers on social exclusion in India, focusing on policy dimensions and the intersection of caste, gender and religion, citizenship, and other identities. It addresses marginalised groups’ challenges, including economic disparities, health inequalities, and climate-induced migration.
