The Evolution of Accounting and Finance in the Age of Technological Disruption and Sustainability.

The fields of accounting and finance are undergoing significant transformations driven by technological advancements and a heightened focus on sustainability. Emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics are redefining traditional practices and offering new opportunities for efficiency, transparency, and strategic decision-making. Concurrently, the global emphasis on sustainability has led to the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria into financial reporting and investment decisions.

According to recent research by Smith and Tiwari (2024), the adoption of blockchain technology in accounting can enhance transparency and reduce fraud by providing immutable transaction records. Additionally, AI and machine learning algorithms are increasingly used for predictive analytics, risk assessment, and automated auditing, which streamline operations and improve accuracy. Meanwhile, ESG-focused investing is reshaping financial markets as investors and companies prioritize long-term sustainability over short-term gains (Jones, Patel, & Lee, 2023; Global Reporting Initiative, 2022).

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated these trends, highlighting the need for robust financial systems that can withstand economic shocks and contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs). Companies have adopted digital tools to maintain financial operations remotely, optimize supply chains, and engage with stakeholders more effectively (Deloitte, 2021). This dual focus on technological innovation and sustainability is reshaping the landscape of accounting and finance, demanding a re-evaluation of practices, policies, and education to prepare professionals for future challenges.

This conference will explore the intersection of these critical areas, providing a platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss the implications, challenges, and opportunities presented by these emerging trends. We aim to foster a collaborative environment where participants can share insights, present research, and develop strategies to navigate the future of accounting and finance in a rapidly evolving world.
