Concept Note

The term "cultural diversity" is frequently used in two distinct contexts. It is sometimes used to refer to the idea that the spread of a globalised 'world culture' threatens the cultural customs and ways of life of specific groups around the world. As a result, cultural diversity is frequently mentioned in this context as something that needs to be preserved or protected.

Cultural diversity is necessary for long-term prosperity, referred to as the fourth pillar of sustainability's stability. Although it seems like a contradiction, promoting cultural diversity could help the research community live together peacefully. When people feel confident in their ability to live according to their cultural values, they are better able to talk to each other and work together. Cultures that are different from each other are the main source of sustainable growth for people, communities, and nations. Respecting, preserving, and promoting the world's cultural diversity is important for making a global plan for sustainable development now and in the future.

It is important to understand the idea of "plurality" as it exists within and between cultures, as well as within and between people in societies, because this idea is sometimes overlooked when looking at art and design practises from around the world that are different from one another in terms of culture. Culture gives people and groups more ways to live their lives. Adapting to change and making socio-ecological systems more resilient is very important. Cultural diversity makes the world richer and more interesting. It gives people more chances and helps them develop their skills and values. As a result, it makes a big difference in the growth of communities, people, and nations. When developing a sustainable strategy for product creation, production, consumption, post-consumption management, and policy recommendations based on research, cultural diversity must be considered.

Whether the goal is to promote gender equality, good education, or measures to fight poverty, cultural diversity is a key part of achieving development goals. So, the strategy for sustainability must consider the different cultures. Many practitioners think that the key to success is diversity since everyone brings something different to the table. In fact, academics recommend a diversity and inclusion strategy that is in line with the values, behaviours, and commitments that are emphasised at all levels of the organisation, such as leading by setting a good example, driving change, supporting team growth, and being open and welcoming.

The conference invites scholars across disciplinary boundaries to become a part of the collective in furthering the narrative beyond the contemporary sustainable practices in the design. We invite papers, presentations, reports, posters etc. on the following sub-topics.
