The 3rd edition of the Fashion as a Tool for Social Change (FTSC) conference brings together thought leaders, academicians, researchers, designers, and industry professionals to explore the transformative potential of fashion as an agent of societal impact. Organized by the School of Arts and Design, Woxsen University, The FTSC 2025 conference aligns with the pressing needs of society by addressing key areas that shape the future of fashion. Sustainability is at the forefront, focusing on tackling climate change and reducing the fashion industry's carbon footprint through innovative and responsible practices. It emphasizes cultural integrity by preserving and authentically celebrating diverse cultural narratives, ensuring they remain integral to the evolving fashion landscape. The conference also explores the technological impact on fashion, harnessing advancements to democratize design processes and enhance creative possibilities. Also, it highlights social empowerment, leveraging fashion as a tool to enable equitable opportunities and promote inclusivity. By integrating academic insights, industry expertise, and societal priorities, FTSC 2025 aspires to redefine the narrative of fashion in a way that is both progressive and reflective of the modern world. Fashion has transcended its traditional boundaries of aesthetics and functionality to emerge as a medium for activism, cultural dialogue, and environmental stewardship.
The Bachelor of Design (Hons.) program at Woxsen is designed to help students expand their knowledge, skills, abilities, and aptitude to become creative problem solvers, while the Ph.D. program provides a robust platform to enhance in-depth research & domain expertise. The curriculum is also aimed to bring in a fresh perspective & a global outlook in design ideas and executions. The overall structure of the design program is a combination of skill development and enhancement, design projects, and field experiences duly supported by an appropriate proportion of Theoretical lectures. It endeavors to develop and promote a symbiotic partnership between academia and the industry. The School of Arts & Design's ultimate goal is to transform aspiring students’ dreams into reality.
Building upon the success of FTSC 2024, which explored "Fashion as a Tool for Social Change: Cultural Preservation and Innovation," FTSC 2025 aims to take a step further by envisioning " Fashion as a Visionary Tool for Societal Impact: Innovating the Present, Preserving the Future ”. This theme aligns with the pressing need to reimagine fashion as a medium for social, economic, and environmental progress. It highlights fashion's ability to merge tradition with forward-thinking innovation, promoting a sustainable and equitable society. This year’s conference will emphasize the transformative potential of fashion and textiles in addressing global challenges such as sustainability, technological evolution, inclusivity, and cultural revival. By introducing new subthemes and tracks, the conference seeks to redefine the role of the fashion and textile industry in shaping a better future.

era of globalization and digital transformation, cultural narratives are evolving, blending tradition with
modernity. The revival of traditional practices, crafts, and storytelling plays a crucial role in
preserving heritage while making it relevant to future generations. This panel discussion will explore how
cultural narratives are shaped, preserved, and revitalized in diverse contexts, from fashion and design to
performing arts, literature, and digital media.
The panel will have about 8-10 members (at the level of Deans and Heads of Design Departments/Schools or
distinguished researchers in Fashion, Textile) the panel discussion on cultural narratives and revival,
will focus on the following six questions:
Key Discussion Questions:
1. How do cultural narratives evolve over time, and what factors contribute to their transformation?
2. What role does storytelling play in preserving and reviving traditional cultures?
3. How can digital platforms and media contribute to the revival of cultural heritage?
4. What are the ethical considerations in modernizing and commercializing traditional crafts and
practices?
5. How can younger generations be engaged in cultural preservation and innovation?
6. What strategies can be adopted to balance heritage conservation with contemporary design and market
demands?
